District Committees

The Michigan District has many district committees to support our organization. We are always looking for volunteers to assist.

ACHIEVEMENT & AWARDS (A&A)	Ryan, Rita	To conduct a fun, fair competition for Clubs that reflects quarterly achievement toward Optimist Organizational goals. Committee Chair should have a disposition for gathering detailed information from computer and Club reports. Use of electronic spreadsheet software is helpful. Quarterly reports should be given in a fun, enthusiastic, game-like format.
ACTIVITIES	Kipke, Lisa	Promote participation in three major area projects. Promote club participation in CPA, Youth Appreciation, Respect for Law.
BULLETIN EDITOR (OPTIVIEWS)	Jarratt, Theresa	To deliver communications to the membership of the District, as information is the lifeblood of any organization. Consider publications for three groups: Members, Club leaders and District leaders. Editor needed to assist in ensuring that the content spelling, format and assist in article content.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS COMMITTEE	Foster, Monetta	To proactively encourage, qualify and nominate capable Governors and Lieutenant Governors to seek office. The future of the District lies in the ability to attract top-quality officers.
CHILDHOOD CANCER CAMPAIGN (CCC) COMMITTEE	Walker, Jim	To encourage involvement and assistance with children with cancer and their families by facilitating Member and Club participation in the CCC throughout the District.
CLUB FITNESS ADVISORS (Formally Club Services)	Lyon, Elaine	To aid and assist member Clubs, connecting them with resources that can build strength and stability. To identify and assist Clubs in danger of revocation or disbandment.
COMMUNICATION CONTEST FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING (CCDHH)	Mills, Dan	To promote Club participation in the Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and to conduct a District Competition.
CONFERENCE & CONVENTION COMMITTEE	Eisen, Terry	To plan, promote and conduct the District Conferences and the Annual Convention.
ESSAY CONTEST	Regiani, Sherry	To promote Club participation in the Essay Contest. Conduct an annual District Essay Contest.
FINANCE COMMITTEE	Katz, Marc D	To review financial operations the District and give interpretations and opinions of District financial health and status to the Executive Committee. To coordinate annual District audits.
GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE	Gudmundsen, Paul	This committee suggests policy revisions shall be made annually.
HALL of FAME	Foster, Monetta	This committee receives nominations from clubs for the Hall of Fame candidates.
HISTORIANS	Moss, Lou	Keeping the history of the District
JOOI COMMITTEE	Neal, Tom	To grow the District with more JOOI kids serving kids.
JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS COMMITTEE	Longhway, Thomas	To plan, promote and conduct the District Junior Golf Tournament. To increase participation in local and International OIJGC.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE	Ingersoll, Nicole Brose, Don	To plan, promote and conduct the training of Club and District leaders making them more effective leaders. To cultivate and encourage future Optimist leaders.
LONG RANGE PLANNING	Kauffold, Michelle	The Long Range Plan/Strategic Planning Committee will meet quarterly to ensure implementation of the plan.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE	Barckholtz, Pamela	To cause membership growth in the District by teaching programs, conducting promotions and encouraging recruitment by members and Clubs.
NEW CLUB BUILDING COMMITTEE	Brooks, Linda	To encourage and assist in building new Optimist Clubs within the District.
OI AMBASSADOR	Sucher, Steve	The Convention Ambassador, shall promote the attendance to Optimist International’s Annual Convention.
OI FOUNDATION REPRESENTATIVE	Thames, Cherryl	To seek funds from members, Clubs and businesses for the Optimist International Foundation and Optimist International Foundation of Canada.
ORATORICAL CONTEST	Pryor, Sheryl	To plan, promote and conduct the annual District Oratorical Contest Finals at the Third Quarter Conference. To encourage local contests by member Clubs and assist Lieutenant Governors in the planning for the required Zone Contests.
Parliamentarian	Mueller, Sean	To advise Governor to maintain adherence to and observance of parliamentary procedure at official District and Board of Directors meetings. National Association of Parliamentarians - NEW RESOURCE! In July 2010, Optimist International entered into a partnership with the National Association of Parliamentarians. Widely known as the experts on parliamentary procedure, the association's resources are now available to Optimist Clubs and Districts. Personal Growth & Involvement (PGI)	Cosby, Harriett	To promote Optimist International’s Personal Growth and Involvement (PGI) program.
Professional Development Program (PDP)	Thompson, Linda	Promote the Professional Development (PDP) program
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE	Kunse, Joette	To assist in spreading the word of Optimism as a positive-minded youth service organization and to enhance the image of Optimism.
SCRAPBOOK		The scrapbook committee collects the district scrapbooks and compiles and gives the awards for the scrapbook.
Spouse/Guest/Youth Activities	Gudmundsen, Jacqueline	To promote the participation by member Clubs in all of the youth-serving and community-serving projects sponsored by Optimist International.
